"Avatar: The Last Airbender" creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko unveiled their latest project, animated fantasy film "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender," at San Diego Comic-Con, saying they wanted their first Avatar Studios project to resonate with longtime fans.

Directed by Lauren Montgomery, the film explores a chapter fans have long wanted to see: Aang and his friends as adults.

The franchise's first feature film faced a setback in April, when an unknown source leaked the entire movie in a post on X.

ECB President Christine Lagarde unveiled the second theme shortlisted for the future euro banknotes: Rivers and Birds.

Lagarde said the idea behind the theme is deeply European. Rivers and birds cross borders, symbolizing freedom, unity and Europe’s connection to nature.

She noted that Europe’s wide variety of rivers and birds reflects both the continent’s beauty and its shared responsibility to protect nature.

On the front of the proposed banknotes, the designs show bird and river scenes. Examples include a wallcreeper and a mountain spring on the €5 note, and a kingfisher at a waterfall on the €10 design.

On the reverse side, the banknotes feature European institutions, highlighting the fundamental values of the European project. Lagarde pointed out that the European Parliament appears on the €5 note, while the ECB is shown on the €20 banknote.

The result is a vision of future euro banknotes that connects nature, freedom, European identity and shared values in a fresh new design direction.

'Canadair' firefighting planes dump water over a wildfire raging just west of Madrid as authorities battle several fires in the region of the Spanish capital. At least 19,000 people in the Madrid region have been evacuated or ordered to remain indoors due to wildfires that have become the worst in the area's history, according to local officials. Two of the fires have merged, emergency services say, as firefighting efforts are hampered by winds.

European Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra responds to questions on the EU’s taxation omnibus package and its possible impact in the Dutch tax context, including concerns around Box 2 and Box 3.

Hoekstra says the Dutch situation still depends on national political choices, but argues that the EU proposal gives Member States room to manage risks, including through anti-abuse provisions and an eight-year transition period.

He rejects fears of major unintended consequences, saying governments still have space to define the scope and intervene where needed.

Speaking in English for the wider audience, Hoekstra stresses that Member States have asked for tax rules that make life easier for companies, support investment in innovation, research and development, and remove barriers across the EU.

His message is clear: Europe needs simpler tax rules, fewer cross-border obstacles and a stronger Single Market if it wants companies to grow, invest and compete globally.
